As I seek re-election to the office of Mayor of Fair Haven, I look back on the past four years and am pleased with the progress we have made. My first term has been an eventful four years for our Borough. Just a sampling of some of the things we have done in the past four years: We replaced our Borough Administrator, Borough Clerk, Borough Engineer, DPW Supervisor, CFO and Recreation Director. We settled the cell tower problem, put into service our first new fire truck in over 25 years, renovated our Borough Dock, continued with infrastructure improvements Borough-wide, and upgraded our Recreation programs. We purchased hybrid vehicles, shared services or otherwise cut our costs, without reducing services. We lost a significant amount in State Aid, but all of our efforts led to a tax cut for the Borough tax rate three years in a row. We continue to work hard to find ways to keep our property tax burden from driving us all out of town. Our budget challenges will continue, but the Borough Council and I are committed to living within our means. This year we will move forward with an Energy Audit, continue to invest in our road program and our “Streetscape” project along River Road; continue to expand recreational opportunities, and continue to look at ways to get the most “bang for our buck”. I continue to attempt to apply traditional Republican principles of smaller government and lower taxes to our Borough. I find that this is not always easy, as there are many areas where small town issues have little to do with the larger principles of the Republican Party. However, I remain a firm believer that the less of a role government plays in our everyday lives, the better off we will all be.
