The Future is in Your Hands

I write today to urge you to vote for Chris Christie on Tuesday.

Over the past eight years, New Jersey has seen one failed economic policy after another drive our state to the brink of ruin. We are effectively bankrupt. You have all heard the statistics: Next year's budget shortfall is expected to top 8 billion dollars. The worst business climate in the Nation. The highest property taxes in the Nation. The highest unemployment in the region. It goes on and on.

Now the New York Times reports that Governor Corzine is contemplating bringing back his “asset monetization” of two years ago, whereby tolls on our roadways will skyrocket.

It is time to tell Governor Corzine that New Jersey's hard working middleclass suburbs are not Trenton's ATM machine.

The New Jersey Democratic Party, bought and paid for by Governor Corzine, and manipulated by Camden and Bergen County bosses, has wrought havoc on our State. That alone should be reason enough to vote for Chris Christie.

However, the biggest threat to our way of life in central New Jersey is not the corruption, not the tax and spend mentality, not the centralized planning, and not the terrible business climate imposed upon us by an out of touch Governor, his cohorts in the State Legislature and his Democratic predecessors. Rather, the biggest threat to our way of life in central New Jersey is COAH. The Council On Affordable Housing, with its mandates for new “affordable” homes, will rend our towns into shadows of their former selves, overburden our schools, infrastructure and pocketbooks.

I do not think it is hyperbole to state that the future is in your hands.

In Fair Haven, for example, COAH thinks we need 143 affordable housing units. Our town has fewer than 2000 homes at present. Adding 143 would increase enrollment in our schools by as many as 300, adding a third to our school population. Class size would go up, or a new school would have to be built. Property taxes would increase exponentially. The COAH mandate will affect every single one of our towns. The COAH mandate, if allowed to go forward, will dramatically and irreversibly drive down our quality of life.

One candidate has said he would “gut COAH”. One candidate understands that, just as throwing money at the Abbot Districts doesn't improve results, forcing affordable housing on towns will not solve the affordable housing crisis. That candidate is Chris Christie. When he announced his candidacy in Monmouth County in February, he said, “If I am governor, I will gut COAH and I will put an end to it.” Christie has also said that COAH was a fundamentally flawed concept.

Please vote for Chris Christie on Tuesday. Please also support your Republican Candidates in teh Assembly, Freeholder and local races. It is time to take back New Jersey.
